Alan Edwards is currently a President / CEO of Lansbrit Resources Ltd., a life science and healthcare executive firm focusing on growth strategies, strategic planning, marketing and category positioning. Previously, as Principal of Townsend, Inc., where he specializes in branding and strategic initiatives for bioscience companies. Prior to joining Townsend, Alan served as president and on the board of directors for Merck (EMD) Biosciences (a division of Merck KGaA). After assuming the helm in 1999, Alan successfully implemented several key initiatives that resulted in Merck Biosciences becoming the second fasted growing life science product company in the industry. Alan moved the from 0% to 20% growth by shifting the balance of internal resources to reflect a successful channel strategy and commanding a robust product development platform. The company focused in the market areas of molecular biology, biochemistry, peptide chemistry, and immunology serving drug discovery.
Additionally, Alan was instrumental in the integration of The Merck/EMD brands into Merck's overall business. Prior to joining Merck/EMD Biosciences, Alan spent time at Merck headquarters in Germany directly involved in the sales and marketing of many bioscience businesses including WW Laboratory Chemicals, Scientific Laboratory Products, Pharmaceutical Derivatives and Pharmaceutical businesses. While at Merck in Germany and together with the North American businesses, Alan was directly involved in Merck's channel partners throughout Europe, Asia, and North America [VWR International]. Alan is well versed in channel partnerships, end-customer needs and strategically positioning products serving the bioscience, drug discovery, medical device, diagnostic and instrumentation markets.
Alan participated in many mergers and acquisitions during his career focusing on core technology and top line development strategies. The ability to read a market, assess the necessary strategic play and implement the essential tactics to ensure success is a key strength.
Alan also served as VP of Marketing, North America at Merck KGaA and for EM Science. He also served as VP of Sales and Marketing for Merck Laboratory Products for BDH Inc. Alan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.
