Anette Asher
Executive Director, LSIT Global Institute
Anette Asher joined the Life Science Information Technology (LSIT) Global Institute in September 2005 as Executive Director and Member of the Board of Directors.
She leads the organization in the development of Good Informatics Practices, or GIP, which will facilitate the deployment of critical IT systems within Life Sciences
and Health Care organizations. She is tasked with developing and executing the strategy by which LSIT intends to remove the barriers and hurdles that compliance and
standards can cause in IT processes. Asher directs the focus of several committees and dozens of industry volunteers to develop the GIP Guidance Document as a clear
"playbook", one that will enable CIOs in the life sciences and health care industries to bring greater focus on return on IT investment for the company.
While Director of Programs for the UC San Diego CONNECT organization, Asher was asked to incubate the Life Science Information Technology (LSIT) Global Institute and gained funding and support from Sun Microsystems, Pfizer and Novartis. In April 2004, she joined the San Diego Supercomputer Center at UCSD as head of industry relations for the life sciences community. Her focus was to cultivate collaborations for six major projects run by the center: high performance computing, data and knowledge management, integrative biosciences, networking, grid and parallel computing and computational science.
During her time at UCSD, Asher oversaw the quality content and delivery of many various programs including the "Converging Technologies Series" featuring three conferences in Nanotechnologies, Sensors Nets, and Homeland Security. In addition, she oversaw the efforts for marketing, fund raising, membership and new programs.
Previously, Asher was with Spherion, Right Management and Centre Pointe Marketing. For 10 years, she served as Vice President of Operations for Advanced BioResearch Associates and later was co-founder of venture backed high-tech/life science start-up, BioQ.
Asher has served on several corporate boards of private companies and continues her dedication in serving the community. She is founder or co-founder of five organizations in San Diego: the Executive Women's Council, CAP on Campus, Club 1200 investments, Senior Human Resources Executives, and the San Diego Business Advisory Board at the UCSD Rady School of Management. She has served as board member for many charities, including Sharp Healthcare Foundation, LSIT, Travelers Aid, San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau and others.
