Elaine Wuertz is the Chairman of the Board of Life Science Information Technology (LSIT) Global Institute. LSIT is a not for profit organization with the mission to safeguard
public health by increasing trust in Life Science and Healthcare IT through development of open, publicly available best practice IT guidelines that help organizations better
manage risks and ensure adherence to optimal compliance standards. The vision for LSIT is to become the trusted reference body driving global adoption of Good
Informatics Practice Guidance. In her role with LSIT Elaine aims to facilitate collaborations to develop open, publicly available Good Informatics Practices for the Life
Science and healthcare communities.
Elaine has spent nearly 22 years in pharmaceutical R&D IT. Her most recent position was Informatics site leader for the Pfizer La Jolla R&D site and member of the overall Site Leadership Team. Prior to that Elaine was a member of the global Research Informatics leadership team at Pfizer where she managed the informatics staff at the La Jolla research site. Prior to joining Pfizer in 1997 Elaine worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb for 12 years. Elaine began her career as a systems programmer in aerospace and then moved into pharmaceutical R&D early on.
Elaine's career at Pfizer began as a pioneer and leader in the development of research data integration of scientific a research data warehouse for R&D and later as a global team leader where she led the Research Informatics group at the Pfizer La Jolla site. She led development and project efforts aimed towards the integration of disparate types of data and information, with the aim of easily enabling scientists to electronically access all types of integrated data and information spanning from genomics to chemistry and decision support. Before Pfizer, Elaine worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb throughout the growth era of procuring, developing and implementing integrated systems for the drug discovery high throughput screening and high throughput synthesis.
Elaine's most recent interests are in the Healthcare IT area, where she can leverage her past experience and knowledge in a complementary area of Human Health and well being. She is currently studying to become a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information Management Systems (CPHIMS).
