Jason Cooper
- Technology Advisory Board
He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science from West Virginia University in 1993 and 1997, respectively. Cooper was first introduced to healthcare informatics during his graduate research which utilized neural networks to predict cholesterol management treatment strategies. Following his first industry experience - as a software engineer developing client-server, database, and user interface applications - he was introduced to the NASA software development community. For eight years, Cooper performed full lifecycle verification and validation activities on both manned and unmanned NASA spaceflight software for Titan Systems Corporation (now, L3-Titan). Following that experience, he led the health and life sciences research and development efforts for a non-profit organization - the Mid-Atlantic Technology, Research, and Innovation Center (MATRIC).
Mr. Cooper is scheduled to earn his second M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, with specialization in healthcare informatics, from Duke University this December. His research there has focused on data mining for complex correlations in those diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Cooper is currently employed as the Director - Analytics & Outcomes for Accordant Health Services - a disease management organization focusing on rare, chronic diseases. Recently, he delivered a keynote speech addressing the important topic of healthcare software assurance at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's St. Margaret's Hospital.
Mr. Cooper is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a member of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), a member of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), and a member of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). In addition, he is a member of the Life Sciences Information Technology (LSIT) Global Institute's Technology Advisory Board (TAB).
