Ward Fleri, Ph.D.

Dr. Ward Fleri has over 16 years experience successfully managing scientific and software projects and working in a variety of scientific domains. He has effectively bridged the gap between management and technical responsibilities, exercising strong organizational and management skills. His key strengths include project management, organization and leadership, and creative and effective problem solving.
Dr. Fleri is currently working at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology (LIAI) as the project manager for the Immune Epitope Database and Analysis Program, a seven-year contract with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). He is also providing project management guidance and expertise on two large-scale epitope discovery contracts awarded to LIAI by the NIAID. Dr. Fleri also spent three years as the project manager for the Protein Data Bank at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, an organized research unit of UCSD. Prior to coming to UCSD, Ward worked for 17 years at Photon Research Associates, a San Diego aerospace R&D firm, where he led the Software Engineering Group and managed numerous projects. He also has work experience in developing oil reservoir simulations and investigating climate change.
Dr. Fleri received a BA in Mathematics and Physics from Williams College, and his MS and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University. He is a graduate of the UCSD Extension Leadership and Management Program (LAMP), and took additional graduate management courses at San Diego State University. He holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute.
The La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology is a non-profit medical research center dedicated to increasing knowledge and improving human health through studies of the immune system. Its essential purpose is to expand our understanding of how the immune system works and to discover the causes of immune system disorders. The knowledge gained through this research can in turn lead to the prevention, treatment and cure of a wide range of human diseases. LIAI ranks among the top organizations worldwide for the impact of its research.
