The Benefits of LSIT Membership

The LSIT Global Institute is a U.S. 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Participation in the Institute's efforts will allow its members a seat at the table in this essential task. Institute members will:

  • Define, select and shape the development of GIPs and its initiatives
  • Have early access to Institute research and drafts
  • Contribute, review, revise and approve the Institute's recommendations in draft and final form
  • Gain access to and interact with thought leaders in their own industries, within academic and research institutions in this and other countries participating in the research effort, and in regulatory agencies around the world
  • Be the beneficiaries of integrated solutions leading to the formation of a "digital information processing highway" as universally accepted, open and critical in the medical products development cycle as, for example, the structures that created the World Wide Web and the Automated Teller Machine.

The integration of IT into the life sciences and healthcare is rapid and profound. This integration has a real potential for reducing both the time and cost of bringing new medical therapeutics and products from discovery to the patient. The one main inhibiting factor is "trust". Trusting that these very complex IT tools, computational processes, and resulting data are in fact accurate and valid, is critical for all stakeholders and gatekeepers alike.

LSIT Pentagon

Founded in 2003, the Life Sciences-Information Technology (LSIT) Global Institute is a U.S. 501(c)(3) corporation, and as such, all contributions made to LSIT are tax deductible as allowed by law. LSIT is headquartered in San Diego, California. The organization's members are an alliance of leading global life sciences and information technology companies, renowned academic and medical research, institutions, healthcare providers, payors, and representatives from government regulatory agencies worldwide.

LSIT is chartered with the sole purpose of developing open, publicly available Good Informatics Practices (GIP) for the life sciences and health care communities using a risk-based approach. The effective and appropriate use of IT offers the promise of reducing time and research investments and accelerating new medical therapeutics and products from discovery to the patient.

Someone will have to undertake this effort and those who initiate and lead the effort will be able to shape its outcome.
