About LSIT: Volunteer Structure

LSIT is made up of leading professionals representing the life sciences, IT, and healthcare industries, along with critical support from government regulators and the medical and scientific research communities. The main components of this organization are as follows:
Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors manages all activities of the LSIT Global Institute. Directors are selected for their expertise and leadership in IT, the life sciences, and regulatory affairs. They oversee the organization's strategy and operations, and provide guidance and subject expertise where needed.
Technology Advisory Board (TAB)
The Technology Advisory Board is charged with directing and managing the conception, development, review, and publication of GIP.
Executive Director
Executive Director Anette Asher is tasked with managing the day-to-day operations of LSIT, including recruiting volunteers and new members, organizing working groups, and developing and managing initiatives to execute the Board's strategy.
GIP Working Groups
The indvidual working groups report to the TAB and are comprised of the subject matter expert and project manager volunteers who are tasked with the outlining and development of individual GIPs.
Working Groups are constituted based on the published priority development needs for GIP; there are usually from two to three practice areas either in development or in revision at any given time. Working groups have a structure that consists of a Project Manager or PM Team appointed by LSIT and any number of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), who elect a Group Leader to represent them and work with the Project Manager to move the project along.
Project Management Roles
Project Managers develop Good Informatics Practices. There are two major roles-- Project Director and Project Manager. The Project Director works directly for LSIT and takes direction from the Executive Director and the Technical Advisory Council. There will be at least one Project Director for all of GIP. The Project Manager is more execution oriented. He or she is seconded to LSIT from a Life Sciences member company.
Working Group Roles
There are two major roles within each working group -- Working Group Leader (WGL) and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). The Working Group Leader is the coordinator for the Working Group and coordinates with the Project Manager. Group Leaders may be employees of a member Life Sciences Organization or volunteers. Subject Matter Experts provide thought leadership for specific practices and techniques. They may well come from outside of member organizations - either from vendors or the volunteer ranks. Principal Researchers, Researchers and Contributors are variations on the SME roles, and would be integrated into working groups on an as-needed basis.
GO Team
The GO Team leads the development of LSIT GIPs by resolving operational barriers within the working groups. A representative from each of the working groups along with the LSIT staff comprise this committee in order to be the "go to resource" for all working group challenges.
